Ridge Augmentations

If a tooth is lost, there is a good chance that an indention in your gums and jawbone where the tooth used to be will appear. When the jaw is holding a tooth in place, everything stays where it needs to be. When the tooth is lost and nothing is done about it, the jawbone will recede. The indention can become very prominent over a period of time and affect one’s mouth greatly. It will affect the look of the mouth, the way they bite, and how they speak.

An indention in the gum and jaw creates an unnatural looking smile. Your smile can look natural again with ridge augmentation. The dentist will fill in and reshape the gum and jawbone to a more natural looking state by using a bone graft. The bone graft will fill in the empty space to the way it once was so that an implant can be placed. The bone for this procedure can be taken from the holes of the implants, from the chin, or even from part of the pelvis. The bone will be placed so that the jaw is strong enough to support a dental implant. After the dental implant is placed and healed, the jaw and teeth will become straighter and the entire ridge augmentation process will have been completed. You will then have a new, straight smile for everyone to see.

If a tooth of yours has been missing and has affected your smile, it is time to get it taken care of.
